Recent Breakthrough Allows Completely Invisible Photorealistic Images For The First Time Ever

by Wildfire on February 28, 2014

For the first time ever, invisible photo-realistic images are possible.

Just imagine standing in front of a nondescript white banner, when suddenly it happens… the lights go out and from nowhere appears a crisp photo glowing like a movie screen projection. Except it’s not a projection—it’s a fluorescent image!

Introducing ClearMeleon™ UV Invisible Printing

Up until recently this kind of invisible photo-realistic effect was impossible. Sure, invisible and dual images are one of the signature “Wildfire Effects.” But photo-realism is a new thing. You see, in the past, only certain invisible colors were available. That meant artists had to carefully choose and mix what colors they wanted based on limited choices.

But now, due to recent developments in the printing industry, true invisible cyan, magenta and yellow (the 4-color “CYMK” process that your inkjet printer uses) now exists. That means ANY photograph or piece of digital artwork with ANY color configuration can now be printed as an invisible image that glows under black light.

Pretty cool, huh?

We call it ClearMeleon™ printing. The inks dry clear… and it can be any image or color imaginable. Kind of like a chameleon. ClearMeleon™. Get it?

As Versatile As Your Imagination

Any signature “Wildfire Effect” can be created: invisible images, dual images, day-night transitions, or 3-D effects. Another bonus is its durability: the fluorescent effect lasts up to 10 years, depending on the lighting conditions. Outdoors, it can last up to 2 years!

Don’t run out looking for these inks to plug into your home printer just yet though. You won’t find them. This is a very specialized process.

Also, ordinary white paper wouldn’t work anyway. It glows like the full moon under black light and ruins the effect. So materials have to be carefully chosen that have no UV reactivity whatsoever. For the moment, there are a limited number of materials available to print on, but we expect more materials to become available over time. Currently we can print on…

The invisible image dries clear over any visible image or design. Multiple panels can be tiled to create a larger composite image.

  • Evolon – a microfiber textile using a unique microfilament manufacturing process.
  • Polyester Textile (Flame Resistant)
  • Polyester Metallic Foil
  • Canvas

Widths up to 44 inches can be accommodated, and several panels can be placed side-by-side (or one above the other) to create a composite image as large as you like.

Advertising and promotional displays are only the start of the possible applications. Imagine what a designer could do in a commercial or home environment. Or imagine Van Gogh’s “Starry Night” as a glowing fluorescent image! The possibilities and applications are only as limited as the imagination.

How would YOU use this effect? Feel free to comment below.

If you have an idea for something cool and would like to know our ClearMeleon™ Printing pricing, give us a call at 800-937-8065.

This is spectacular. I think fluorescent inkjet printing is the bees knees, but THIS! So, where’s the animated GIF of this? I’d love to see the illuminated transition!

Thanks David, We will be posting animated transitions of the new ClearMeleon Print Process on our site very soon. Stay tuned.

We are almost finished renovating a bus that will be (YOU’LL SEE) the most desirable party bus in history. This bus has a full-length party deck on the roof and we have entertainment lighting hidden everywhere — all hooked into a computer system that will synchronize music, lights, & video. The vehicle is wrapped with a graphic (rather than painted) and we have optional concert lights that can be attached around the rooftop ledges so the bus can be used for an outdoor concert. We have BOTH RGBs and Black Lights BUT were not able to incorporate fluorescents into the vehicle wrap. I would like to know what the cost would be to print fluorescents on banners to hang from the rooftop ledges on the bus…
You are speaking here of invisible fluorescent inks. That is very interesting. I want to see the prices BUT I am also interested to know is there are now visible fluorescent inks for printers.
Thanks !

Is the process currently available?
What’s the turnaround time?
Rough Estimate for 44″ x 66″ image? (49ers…. for Benefit Event we do with their foundation)

Hi Scott, Current pricing, depending on the material you choose ranges from $14.00 -$18.00 Sq. Ft. At this time our maximum print width is 44” x unlimited length. Prints wider than 44” would have to be printed in strips and seamed together which is possible to do. Give us a call at (310) 755-6780 if you would like more details.

As an artist, designer and a lighting freak I LOVE THIS. I was fortunate enough to have worked with Wildfire on Bram Stokers Dracula. They created an amazing array of black lighting effects. It is exciting to see a company over the years maintain their relevance in the industry. It is this kind of technology that is really ramping up the possibilities on every level. I am looking forward to putting this to good use and cant wait to get started. JC LOGAN
